Judge: Dr David O. Harris (USA)
Judge’s Report: It was a great pleasure to return to Canterbury some ten years after my first judging engagement here – not that it seems that long ago. The entry of 26, 30 including the veteran and spayed animals, provided me with a most enjoyable morning’s judging. I was very pleased with my winners and also to have several really promising puppies, which speaks well for the future. Heads, expressions and bites were generally good. The same cannot be said for bone, substance and spring of rib. Though naturally there were exceptions, I thought too many of the entrants lacked the power called for in a BULL Terrier. Also the limited gene pool has resulted in locking in the ticking gene such that the majority of the whites had ticked coats – some with very heavy ticking. This is far less important than most faults, but a gleaming white coat is one of the hallmarks of the breeds. My thanks go to the sporting exhibitors and to the club for inviting me to judge. The Sunday brunch at Ricarton race course provided a delightful setting to meet and chat to everyone – an excellent follow on.

Puppy Dogs:
1.Rijiaca Pilgrim (Tolley)
Sire: Shirvin Ace O Base
Dam: Aust CH Rijiaca Scandalus
Comments: Promising white youngster, well up on the leg. Good head and expression, though could have a little more power of muzzle. Correct bite. Decent bone, correct topline and tail set. Moved freely. Showed and presented very well.
2.Brixton Cityslicka (Adams)
Sire: Brixton Flying Colours
Dam: Brixton Watch This One
Comments: Another white with a keen eye and good Roman finish and correct bite. Decent body, strong, well angulated hindquarters. Front needs to tighten and I would like better reach of neck. Moved quite well.
Junior Dogs:
1.Bramble Sideways Soul (Graham/Mintrom)
Sire: Bramble Just Add Water
Dam: CH Bramble Sweet Symphony

Bramble Sideways Soul
Comments: Upstanding white dog, built along classical lines. Good head and expression; incisors fractionally off. Gun barrel front, nice topline, well let down behind. Showed beautifully and moved exceptionally well. Obviously still a youngster and needs to mature. Ideally I would like a little more bone and power. Later I learned he is a son of my BIS and certainly he has similar virtues to his dam. CC
2.Catchbull Nitefire (Sardelich)
Sire: CH Boromir Bootleg Dam:
CH Kearby’s ByeCatchbull

Catchbull Nitefire
Comments: Powerful br/w, who decided the ring is the place to have fun and refuse to cooperate with handler. So it was difficult to assess him and especially his movement. Super bone and substance. Strong masculine head, though lacking in profile. Outgoing temperament. In tip top condition.
Intermediate Dogs:
1.Brixton Flying Colours (O’Keefe)
Sire: CH Bramble Ink Spot
Dam: CH Brixton Shelby Right
Comments: White with nicely filled and finished head plus typical expression. Shapely body; could have more rear angulation. Moved with purpose, with legs parallel. Obviously really well trained, as he showed beautifully.
NZ Bred Dogs:
1.CH Bramble Mr Mercury (Graham & Mintrom)
Sire: Kabullka Stone Free
Dam: CH Brixton Bedazzled
Comments: Middle of the road white, with a well turned and finished head. Moved in typical jaunty BT fashion. Showed himself to best advantage.
Open Dogs:

CH Bramble Ink Spot
1.CH Bramble Ink Spot (O’Keefe)
Sire: CH Innocent Man of East
Dam: CH Brixton Bedazzled
Comments: There is much to like about this cobby white with a mark at the base of his tail. Well filled masculine head, with neat ears set on top. Good bone and spring of rib. Could have better reach of neck, but he is typical in type for a BT slightly towards the bully end of the spectrum. Covered the ground well. Beautifully handled. Reserve CC

Boromir Outer Limits
2.Boromir Outer Limits (Dalton)
Sire: CH Raging Thunder
Dam: CH Quest Yggdrazil
Comments: Very much a terrier type in comparison to #1. Good head and expression. But lacking in bone and substance.
Baby Puppy Bitches:
1. Bramble Lilly the Pink (Graham & Mintrom)
Sire: Brixton Flying Colours
Dam: CH Bramble Wicked Wanda
Comments: Delightful white puppy, with lots of promise. Pretty head. Short back with super bend of stifle. Moved enthusiastically if in the somewhat uncoordinated manner of a baby. Showed happily.
2. Bramble Wicked Witch (O’Keefe)
Sire: Brixton Flying Colours
Dam: Ch Bramble Wicked Wanda

Bramble Wicked Witch
Comments: Bl/br, again promising, though she needs to straighten and tighten in front.
Puppy Bitches:
1.Brixton Spellbound (O’Keefe)
Sire: Brixton Flying Colours
Dam: Brixton Watch This One

Brixton Spellbound
Comments: White youngster with a gorgeous head plus keen expression. Excellent type with virtues she showed off to best advantage. Good make and shape for her age. Moved really well in profile, though needs to tighten when coming. Never stopped showing to fight off older bitches for the Reserve CC and later took Reserve BIS
Junior Bitches:

Catchbull Mary Goodnight
1.Catchbull Mary Goodnight (Denson)
Sire: Ch Boromir Bootleg
Dam: Ch Kearby’s ByeCatchbull
Comments: Super headed bl/br; exceptionally well filled muzzle; expression could be keener. Very good bone, but still immature in body, needing to spring in rib. Moved freely. Decided showing is all about having fun.
Intermediate Bitches:

Angel Caitlin of Pinewood
1.Angel Caitlin of Pinewood (Dalton)
Sire: Pinewood Advakits Angel
Dam: Ch Pinewood Waiata Koanga
Comments: Br/w with ample bone and shapely body. Strong head but lacking a Roman finish. Excellent coat. Moved with purpose and showed well.
2. Bramble Wicked Wanda (Graham & Mintrom)
Sire: Kabullka Stone Free (Aust)
Dam: CH Brixton Bedazzled
Comments: Br/w, smaller than #1. Nice feminine head with keen expression, shapely body and well let down behind. Not the best of layback of shoulder, causing a slight dip behind the withers. Moved well going away, restricted in front.

CH Bramble Wicked Wanda
3.CH Brixton I’m No Angel (O’Keefe)
Sire: Brixton Watch This Space
Dam: Ch Brixton Ice Maiden
Comments: Elegant white with nicely filled and turned head. Front and shoulders not her fortune. Showed happily.
NZ Bred Bitches:
1.Ch Bramble Sweet Symphony (Graham & Mintrom)
Sire: Ch Boltec Artful Dodger
Dam: Ch Brixton Bedazzled

Ch Bramble Sweet Symphony
Comments: This quality white bitch was the star of the show. Upstanding with lovely lines. Head turned and filled with good Roman finish; incisors fractionally off. Lovely neck; clean front and shoulders. Good depth of brisket. Really good bend of stifle. Top class on the move with excellent reach and drive. To be critical she could have stronger bone. Showed beautifully to garner CC and BIS.
2.Pinewood Wairua Koanga (Mulgrew)
Sire: Ch Raging Thunder
Dam: Ch Pinewood Waiata Koanga

Pinewood Wairua Koanga
Comments: Another very nice white. Not quite the head of #1, but lovely dark eyes. Shapely body and strong hindquarters. Moved and showed well.
3.Catchbull Kissy Suzuki (Denson)
Sire: Ch Boromir Bootleg
Dam: Ch Kearby’s ByeCatchbull
Comments: Mischief or Naughty should have been included in this bitch’s name, as she was certainly full of it. Typy white with lovely head and expression. Needs better layback of shoulder and to mature in body. Difficult to assess movement but she did flex well going away and generally moved freely.
Open Bitches:
1.CH Kearby’s ByeCatchbull (Denson)
Sire: Marshelsea Hellraiser
Dam: Kearby’s Zero

CH Kearby’s ByeCatchbull
Comments: Gorgeous mature white, who did her best to hide her many virtues. Top class head and expression, though she used her ears only momentarily. Lovely clean front and shoulders, short back with good depth of brisket and well angulated stifles. Moved well if not enthusiastically. It must be truly frustrating for her handler and owners that she dislikes showing. Afterwards I saw her at her best stretching her long arched neck (a virtue so often missing in BTs today and that she never showed during the event) and with ears up — she looked quite beautiful.
2.CH Brixton Bedazzled (Graham & Mintrom)
Sire: CH Catchbull Freez’n Steele ADX
Dam: CH Boltec Bright Spark
Comments: Older bitch. Well balanced. Very nice head; bite just off. Moved better going than coming. Showed well. Later Best Veteran
3.Wianna Bordeaux (McKenzie & Holland)
Sire: Aust Ch Another Hero
Dam: Aust Ch Wianna Pernod

Wianna Bordeaux
Comments: Rich brindle with a beautiful coat. Good length of head but lacking finish; needs keener eye. Moved freely and with good reach and drive. Outgoing temperament. Beautifully trained. Enjoying her day out.
